The American publication “Washington Times” dedicates an editorial to the political rise of AUR in Romania, under the title “Romania leads Europe in the new era of conservatism”, according to mihailneamtu.eu.

More precisely, it is a report from the “Make Europe Great Again” (MEGA) conference, organized by AUR on the weekend of April 27-28 in Bucharest, where the Washington Times had a special envoy.

Tim Constantine spoke with AUR President George Simion, who he said is “playing an increasingly important role in the conservative movement in Romania.”

The American journalist called Simion a “charismatic leader” who is trying to unite the European conservative movement against the “extreme left” that controls the European Union.

“I asked him why Romania became a focal point in the conservative movement. He good-naturedly replied, “We are the newcomer to the conservative scene. We desperately see the need to unify the conservative movement. Let’s hope this is our contribution to the conservative movement, let’s come together.”

Then he really started to hit the ground running: “We have the mandates in the Parliament. We have the will of the people. We will win the elections in Romania. We will win the elections in Poland, in Hungary, in Slovakia. We will win in Italy. We will win in France”, writes the columnist.

In conclusion, he includes Simion alongside Ronald Reagan or Margaret Thatcher among the most important conservative leaders.

“Since the days of Reagan’s great friend and ally, Margaret Thatcher, Europe’s most visible leaders have not been reliable conservatives. If Romania’s George Simion follows his path, those days will return again soon,” concluded the American.

Charles Hurt, one of the important American political commentators, writes on the pages of the publication, and in the past, among the signatures were Ben Carson (former member of the Trump Government), Senator Rand Paul or Thomas Sowell.
