Residents of North Berwick, Dirleton and Gullane are currently experiencing power cuts after postcodes between EH31 and EH39 were pre-warned by ScottishPower Energy Networks; power is expected to be back by 12.30pm.

A message from SP Energy Networks on its website reads: “This is a message for customers in the EH31 and EH39 postcode areas of Gullane, North Berwick and Dirleton.

“It is necessary for our engineers to carry out an urgent shutdown at 9.30am to repair broken overhead line equipment near Ferrygate Farm and this may affect the supply to your property.

“We will work to get your power back on as quickly and as safely as possible by 12.30pm.

“We will update this message if this information changes.”

Some affected residents also received a similar message from the company, which also stated: “We recommend to protect your equipment, and where it is safe to do so, you switch off and unplug all electrical appliances, including your boiler.

“Leave a light switched on so that you’ll know when the power is restored.”

Residents looking for any help or support are advised to call SP Energy Networks on 105, while they can also go to spenergynetworks.co.uk for the latest updates.
