Is there a price for Piedone’s withdrawal? Ciolacu’s choice (SpotMedia)

Mr. Nicușor Dan and his supporters have every reason to pray that Mr. Piedone will not withdraw from the race for the Capital. And this for several reasons. Some downright mathematical, writes Ioana Ene Dogioiu.

Gabriela Firea and Cristian Popescu Piedone broadly share the same electoral pool. Until Mrs. Firea entered the fight, Piedone took most of it, because Mr. Cîrstoiu had no grip in that area. Mrs. Firea is taking back a large part of the Pesedist electorate, enough so that Piedone no longer has any real chance at first place.

Journalist SpotMedia he doesn’t think that Piedone and especially his political patron, Dan Voiculescu, are so naive as to think that he still has a real chance to win

Obviously, the stake for Dan Voiculescu, as I said before, is not necessarily the General City Hall. The big stake is raising the PUSL score for female parliamentarians.

With an active and exotic Piedone, shown on all screens, it is certain that the hitherto absolutely obscure party gains great visibility and can amplify its score, primarily in Bucharest, but also at the national level. PUSL reached 12% in Bucharest, only 3 percent behind PNL.

So, obviously, there is only one price that Piedone would perhaps retire, but not a personal one. Most likely, the price would include an electoral alliance for the autumn elections, with which the PSD would treat the PUSL in the Parliament with a much higher number of seats than the party could obtain only through the increase provided by Piedone and Antene.

If Piedone will not retire, it is because Marcel Ciolacu chose to do so.

“Let’s take it upon ourselves to be men too.” Should the army be compulsory in Romania? What the party youth presidents say (HotNews.ro)

HotNews.ro conducted a series of mini-video interviews with the leaders of the youth parties PSD, AUR, USR, Forța Dreptei, PMP and UDMR, about the political actions of the organizations with an impact on young people in Romania. Journalist HotNews.ro Alexandra Nistor addressed topics of interest to young audiences, such as conscription, drug trafficking, conditions in student dormitories, LGBTQ, political measures adopted in the past year and advice for the four rounds of elections this year. Should the Romanian army be mandatory? The leaders of the youth branches of PSD, AUR, USR, UDMR, PMP and Forța Dreptei answered.

Răzvan Biro, the leader of the AUR youth organization, believes that young people should join the army: “let’s grow up in a climate where we assume to be men too.” On the other hand, the PMP youth leader, Marius Lucian Lupu, believes that “the army should be exclusively made up of professionals”.

“By ourselves”, the money stage. PNL members and sympathizers contributed 10.51 million lei to the party, the state gave 74.91 million lei (Libertatea)

In 2023, approximately 10.5 million lei from donations, contributions and the party’s financial activities entered the PNL accounts, an amount seven times lower than the 74.9 million lei received as funding from the state, through the Authority Permanent Elections (AEP).

Of the 74.91 million received in 2023 by the PNL from the state, as a political subsidy, the liberals spent 72.77 million. Most of the money, approximately 45 million lei, went for “press and propaganda expenses.”

And the PSD presented to the Permanent Electoral Authority the situation regarding the financing of the party from different types of funds, data that were published in the Official Gazette. While the amount received by PSD from the state, as a subsidy, amounts to 88.36 million lei, the total of the other sources of income is only 12.18 million lei.

The balance sheet of the influence of the states at the European level: Romania – in the Top 5 as a “power agent” in the EP. But it also has top-notch bells and whistles. The movements that reshaped the parliamentary groups (CursDeGuvernare)

The mandate of the European Parliament, which began with 751 elected representatives from 28 countries, ends after five complicated years with only 705 representatives from 27 member countries.

In calmer times, the UK’s exit from the bloc would have been the main event of this term. However, as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen herself has admitted, Brexit has been forgotten due to war, the cost of living crisis, the past global pandemic and, not least, the conflicting Green Deal legislation.

Politico analyzed the activity of the European Parliament, and Course Of Government retrieve the main information.

Romania – in the Top 5 as a “power agent” in the EP.

Siegfried Mureșan, Marian Jean Marinescu, Dragoș Pîslaru, Victor Negrescu and Dragoș Tudorache are among the most appreciated and influential Romanian MEPs, as a result of their activities in the European Parliament.

According to the statistics regarding voting attendance, two Romanian MEPs are in the top 10 absent from the EP votes.

In second place – surpassed only by a Greek MEP sentenced to prison in 2021 – is Claudiu Manda (PSD), absent in 43.6% of the votes organized in the European Parliament. On the 5th place, Rareș Bogdan (PNL) absent with 32.8% of the votes in the EP.

Both are again on the Coalition’s joint list for the June 9 European Parliament elections, both in eligible positions.
