“Palm of God”, a dream landscape

In Romania, there are many places with dream landscapes, and some people don’t know about them. Among them is the “Palm of God”, a unique place in our country, which is distinguished by its unusual beauty. The name of this place is, in fact, the Bottom of the Abyss, but it is known as the “Palm of God” due to the fact that those who arrive here feel as if they have reached the origins of the world, in the middle of nature.

Where is “The Palm of God”

This place is located in Hunedoara county. Nature is untouched by man, a feature that gives the place uniqueness and which people consider a corner of heaven. The “Palm of God” stretches in a small meadow on the valley of the Ponor River, in the Șureanu Mountains. Those who love nature will feel wonderful in this place, touched only by the traces of wilderness that are in the area.

Those who arrive here must leave the place as they found it to preserve its authenticity. The place doesn’t look untouched by man, so it’s good to keep it that way. Also, photography enthusiasts can capture unique landscapes in this place that take everyone’s breath away.

How to get to this place

You must know that you cannot reach this place by car. You then have to walk on a forest road for two hours. During this time, you can enjoy the beauty of the forest, as well as the clean air, away from the pollution in the cities. On the steep hills are small, old-style houses made only of wood and stone. There is no phone signal at this place as it has not yet been touched by technology.

“This road was much better, when there was a quarry and logging in the area. But it got spoiled with time, and the people here left, so no one took care of it anymore. A better road would help us a lot”says Eleonora, a local from Federi who has an archaic house in Fundătura Ponorului in Hunedoara.

“Usually after Easter, people come here with animals. There are about 12-13 locals who keep animals here: horses, cattle, sheep, even pigs. They stay here with them until autumn or go up higher, towards Târsa, Poiana Omului and through other places in the mountains. In winter, the locals only come back to get their hay. I have about 70 sheep and a few horses that I brought here, but others will also come”says Ioan Albu, a shepherd from the village of Federi.
