The wooden church in Boia, Gorj county, which hosted the Easter celebration of the revolutionary leader Tudor Vladimirescu in 1821, is now on the verge of collapse. Located in an endangered locality, this architectural gem, dedicated to Saint George, dates back to the 18th century and is in danger due to neglect and lack of conservation funds.

The construction of the church, with a unique roof and an architectural plan specific to wooden churches in the area, is characterized by a porch, a vestibule, a nave and a narrower, polygonal room for the altar, arranged in a specific sequence. The shared semi-cylindrical vault covering the nave and awning, together with the plastered walls, are distinctive elements of this architectural gem.

However, the lack of some restoration interventions adequate and necessary financial resources endangers the existence of this historic church. The lack of a tower, an unusual feature for churches in the southern Carpathians, further adds to the vulnerability of this heritage monument.

Although it is listed on the list of historical monuments, with LMI code 2004: GJ-II-mB-09246, the church faces the imminent risk of collapse, and the efforts to save it seem to be insufficient in the face of the inexorable passage of time. The local community and the authorities are called to urgently take measures to preserve and restore this important cultural and religious heritage.
