– Bye, brother!

– He took the car, I would eat your mouth!

  • “I haven’t seen anything like this in a long time!” Flood with hail in Prahova. Cars swallowed by water and layer of…

The flood rushed, out of the blue, on the commune of Vâlcăneşti, 30 kilometers from Ploiesti. The mobs snatched everything they found on the streets. Three heavy cars of several tons were taken up by the gusts and taken to the valley.

Apocalyptic images even on Easter Day

The collapse came after, in an hour and a half, it rained as much as in two weeks – 50 liters of water were collected per square meter. A stream you were wading through suddenly swelled and became a destructive wave.

The locals brought an excavator to pull the cars out of the water.

Bogdan Dinu, Observer reporter: The car was swept away by the flood almost a kilometer, it has soil inside, the sheet metal is completely bent, and the windows are broken. It’s basically total damage.

Extreme weather brought a downpour of trouble. After the flood came the hail. The thick ice bent the sheet metal on the roofs of the houses and chopped everything that people had planted in the yards.

Man: All agriculture is rubbish...I’m 50 or so years old, but it’s the first time I’ve seen something like this!

The water also rushed into the houses, to the despair of the owners, after the ceilings threatened to give way under the ice bombardment.

Damaged: All the water got here, in the house, in the kitchen. Look here! He destroyed everything! This is my home, this is how I can live, this is who I am. It was clean, the water got in here, down here. I shoveled the ice out, it went in all the way.

Bogdan Dinu, Observer reporter: After more than 12 hours, the ice is still visible. This despite the fact that it is now 23 degrees Celsius in the locality and we would have expected it to melt.

Extreme phenomena have multiplied

The locals say that floods of such proportions were very rare – their grandparents caught something like this two or three times in their entire lives. Now, however, extreme phenomena have multiplied.

Locals-reporter: And a year ago the same, the same flood. There is nothing left to fix here.

– We are afraid of… we don’t know how to leave here.

– Are you taking any action of any kind?

– We take action – we leave the house there and move somewhere else, we have nothing else to do.

Local authorities are now assessing the damage.

Adrian Manole, mayor of Vâlcăneşti: We sent the report, the result of the inventory to the County Committee for Emergency Situations and we hope that we will get some compensation for the damage victims.

Hail also hit a few kilometers away. The locals of Goruna had, however, installed anti-hail nets, which protected the crops and showed how severe the storm was.

In Dâmboviţa, the heavy rain and merciless hail destroyed gardens and covered the roads with a thick layer of ice. Last night, the stone fell heavily in Hunedoara, Mehedinti, Sălaj and Arad, and the extreme weather hit today as well – meteorologists announced an orange code of rain and hail in the counties of Botoşani, Suceava, Iasi, Neamţ and Buzau. We don’t get out until the end of next week. From Wednesday, the temperatures drop and we are expecting a new wave of storms with hail and strong wind.
