A 21-year-old woman went into anaphylactic shock after drinking a coffee from a vending machine at an airport in Mallorca.

The young woman works for an airline and bought the drink from a vending machine at Son Sant Joan airport, reports Stiri.md with reference to stirileprotv.ro.

As the woman began to drink the coffee, she noticed that it had a strange taste, and when she looked more closely into the cup, she noticed a swarm of insects crawling inside.

Shortly after, the woman went into anaphylactic shock, her face began to swell and her throat began to close, causing her to struggle to breathe.

The woman was rushed to the hospital, where she reportedly spent 36 hours in intensive care.

Doctors gave her adrenaline and other drugs before she was rushed to a clinic in Palma. Her family has now lodged a complaint against the airport with the National Police.

They claim that the presence of insects in the coffee is a possible offense against public health and negligent injury, the news site added.

The family added that the machine, which has now been shut down, was clearly poorly maintained by airport staff.
