Casey DeSmith, or perhaps Arturs Silovs, is going to be manning the crease for the next while, there’s no doubt now.

Thatcher Demko, the Vancouver Canucks’ No. 1 goalie, isn’t expected to be back in action until the conference ends at best, sources tell Postmedia.

This follows an initial report by InGoal Magazine’s Kevin Woodley on Wednesday that Demko, who appeared to injure his knee late in Monday’s 4-2 Game 1 win over the Nashville Predators, certainly won’t be back for this round and is likely out for round 2, should the Canucks progress that far.

“I don’t expect to see Thatcher Demko back for this round or the next one,” the well-connected Woodley told CHEK-TV’s Donnie and Dhali show. Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet said after Tuesday’s 4-1 loss that Demko was out “week to week” but offered no other details.

“Feels accurate. Maybe late second round,” a source said about Woodley’s reporting.

Another source said that team concerns are even deeper, that he may need surgery and is in fact out for the season.

Either way, the situation isn’t good for Demko or the Vancouver Canucks.
