Almost 6 months after the start of the conflict between Israel and the HAMAS organization, the situation in the region is explosive. The IDF operation in Rafah seems imminent, the negotiations are not yielding results, and the eyes of the whole world are focused on the conflict zones. Since the weekend, tens of thousands of Israelis have been protesting.

Bianca Iacob, Observer special reporter, documented the situation in the north – on the border with Lebanon – as well as in the south of Israel, just a few kilometers from the border with the Gaza Strip. The government led by Benjamin Netanyahu approved the plan for Rafah, but tens of thousands of Israelis are calling for his resignation in the streets and calling for early elections. Many of the relatives of the Israelis kidnapped by HAMAS for half a year are outraged by Prime Minister Netanyahu’s modus operandi and say that the situation cannot continue like this. They demand that the hostages be brought back. The protesters also accuse the prime minister of destroying relations with the United States of America, as he ignores requests from Washington to sign an armistice.

During this time, the secret services – Mossad – as well as those of the Army are looking for solutions including at the negotiation table in Egypt.

In the Gaza Strip, the situation is absolutely catastrophic, with tens of thousands dead and wounded, but also with an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. UNICEF says that a huge number of children live on the edge between life and death.
