The AUR Alliance asked the Central Electoral Bureau to officially change the name. BEC rejected the rectification, arguing that such a change would be an act of amending the protocol of the electoral alliance.

The AUR Alliance cannot change its name

The AUR Alliance consists of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians, led by George Simion, the Republican Party of Romania and the Romanian National Conservative Party.

Its representatives requested the official name change from the AUR Alliance to the Alliance for the Union of Romanians. The request was rejected by the Central Electoral Bureau, which had previously accepted the protocol for establishing the AUR Alliance.

In Tuesday’s meeting, BEC adopted a Decision rejecting the rectification Act of the protocol establishing the electoral alliance “Alianţa AUR”.

The three formations requested, through the rectification act, that the official name of the electoral alliance be “Alliance for the Union of Romanians”.

“BEC qualifies the act in question as an act amending the protocol”appreciates the Central Electoral Office, adding that “the protocol establishing the AUR Alliance has already been approved by a final decision.

Consequently, the BEC rejects the name change act, but the decision can be contested within 48 hours at the High Court of Cassation and Justice”.

On March 8, the government adopted an emergency ordinance that provides for merging the European parliamentary elections with the local ones, setting the date of June 9 for both polls.
