The Bacau police opened a criminal investigation for manslaughter in the case of a 38-year-old pregnant woman who died on March 15 at the Bacau County Emergency Hospital.

The woman’s partner made several complaints to the authorities and wants to clarify if it was not negligence and the fact that the doctors assessed the seriousness of the situation improperly.

The Bacau police opened a criminal investigation for manslaughter in the case of a 38-year-old pregnant woman who died

The 38-year-old patient, who was four months pregnant, following an in vitro fertilization procedure, arrived at the hospital with acute abdominal pain and died in the medical unit less than 24 hours after admission.

The medical director of the Bacău County Emergency Hospital, Aurelia Ţaga, gave explanations on Radio Romania Actualității, quoted by Rador, according to which the medical procedures applied to the woman did not take into account the possibility of stopping the pregnancy from developing:

“The doctor established the therapeutic course, but after 2-3 hours, the patient’s condition worsened. A committee of doctors met, two gynecologists and the on-call ATI, examined the patient again, who had severe pain in the upper abdominal floor. They decided to request a general surgery examination and the on-call surgeon also wanted an imaging examination of the patient and a quantity of pericholecystic fluid was found, which is why a laparoscopic intervention was recommended for diagnostic purposes. At the same time, it was requested that a gynecologist be part of the operating team and the doctor who examined the patient in the morning presented himself. During the laparoscopic intervention, spontaneous abortion occurred and there was no need for surgical intervention in the genital area. The patient was transferred to the ATI, but the biological investigations in the dynamics announced an evolution towards aggravation and towards the definition of a toxicoseptic shock.”

This is the second case in about half a year

According to the explanations of the medical director, a few hours after the postoperative transfer to the Intensive Care Unit, the woman suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest, after which she was resuscitated. Two hours later, she had a second cardio-respiratory arrest, and the doctors could no longer revive her, declaring her death.

This is the second case, within about half a year, in which a pregnant woman dies in the hospital, in the area of Moldova.

In August last year, Alexandra Ivanov, a 25-year-old young woman, three months pregnant with her fourth child, died at Botoşani Municipal Hospital, after agonizing for several hours. She was hospitalized with pain and bleeding during the night, and the doctors on duty ignored her until the morning, when she died.

“I’m out of breath”, were among Alexandra’s last words to her family.
