Tragedy on the coast before the May 1 holiday: a 27-year-old driver died, and his 23-year-old friend, a passenger, was left without a hand in a terrible accident in Mangalia. The young man behind the wheel of a car did not take into account the rain outside and pressed the accelerator pedal. Most likely, the rear-wheel drive car went aquaplaning and could no longer be controlled. He spun several times on the road and crashed violently into a pole. The impact was captured by a surveillance camera.

The terrible accident happened near the Mangalia shipyard, at eight in the morning. A surveillance camera captured the terrible impact. The sports car turns several times on the road, ends up with its back in the direction of travel, leaves the road, hits a fence, smashes a tricycle and stops in an electricity pole.

Andreea Filip, Observer reporter: The young people were coming from Vama Veche and going to Mangalia. In the curve, the driver lost control of the steering wheel and slid tens of meters on the wet road.

The outcome is tragic

The driver, a 27-year-old man, who was most likely not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car. His 23-year-old friend, passenger on the right, remains a prisoner between the contorted beasts.

Witness: Mother, how did it happen!

Several rescues immediately arrive at the scene of the accident.

Anamaria Stoica, ISU Dobrogea spokesperson: We intervened with two special cars to release smurd and saj. In support came mobile intensive therapy.

The two young people are in extremely serious condition. The doctors urgently send them to the Mangalia hospital. On the way, however, the driver dies.

Claudia Tatarici, SAJ doctor: He went into cardiorespiratory arrest, a resuscitation protocol was performed, but he was declared dead.

The two were going to do the ITP of the car

His friend is sent to the Constanţa County Hospital. He is in a coma and the doctors had to amputate his arm. The two young people are from Limanu and were going by car to an ITP station. Specialists who have seen the images believe that the driver most likely lost control of the steering wheel due to the aquaplaning phenomenon. Specifically, he was speeding on a wet road.

Titi Aur: Nobody talks about aquaplaning at the driving school. It’s a classic situation, those young people had too much faith in the car, they went faster than the car’s systems could protect them. When you get into aquaplaning, you need a lot of experience and talent to escape unharmed. What you have to do is anticipate.

The police will establish exactly how the tragedy happened.

Olimpia Ceară, IPJ spokesperson: Biological samples were taken from the driver to determine his blood alcohol level and possible consumption of psychoactive substances.

For now, it is not known if the driver was drunk or drugged.

A similar accident happened on the A1 highway last week. A 38-year-old driver, who was going home, towards Pitesti, died after losing control of the steering wheel, also due to the aquaplaning phenomenon. It hit the metal parapet between the two directions of travel, and the piece of metal went through the hood of the car and came out through the trunk.
