Food products are getting more expensive, as Easter approaches, like every year, and many Romanians complain that they simply cannot cope with the price increases.

Both vegetables and meat have become very expensive, and the period before Easter registers among the biggest price increases.

The first Romanian tomatoes, for example, have already appeared in the markets, but the prices are much too high for many customers.

A kilogram of Romanian tomatoes costs even 50 lei, and prices could increase in the coming period, notes Antena3.

And lamb meat is getting more expensive

According to the National Institute of Statistics, the price of meat increased in the last year by 10%, but the biggest price increases were for pork and lamb.

A kilogram of live lamb is now sold in farms for 25 lei per kilogram, but experts say the price will rise to 30 lei as Easter approaches.

In the markets it is almost impossible to find lamb meat below 40 lei per kilogram, but even in this case it seems that the prices will increase in the next period.

The kilogram of carcass lamb is sold for almost 55 lei in the markets. The lamb organs used in the Easter roast are also sold for 30 lei per kilogram.

Also, the mutton pastrami ended up costing even 50 lei per kilogram, notes the quoted source.

And the cakes are more and more expensive. Cheaper cozonacs can be found in supermarkets with prices starting from 15 to 20 lei, but their quality is not comparable to that of cozonacs from patisseries or confectioneries. There are, however, pretentious confectioneries that sell cookies for 200 lei per kilogram.
