Urgent warning to Scots rail passengers as no trains to run on major line over Easter

AN URGENT warning has been issued to passengers across Scotland as no trains will be running on a major line over Easter.

Several changes have been made to the CrossCountry timetable which will affect services to and from Edinburgh and Glasgow Central.

Over the next three days, no CrossCountry trains between the two cities will be running from Saturday, March 29, until Monday, April 1, Edinburgh Live reported.

Replacement buses will instead run between Edinburgh and Motherwell due to engineering works.

Other rail operators will continue to run services between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Passengers have been urged to check their journey this weekend as a number of changes have been made to “ensure smooth and reliable journeys.”

Planned engineering work on a number of CrossCountry routes will mean increased journey times and bus replacement services over the weekend.

Richard Morris, CrossCountry’s Service Delivery Director, said: “This Easter we’re dedicated to keeping last-minute cancellations to a minimum for customers around the country.

“We know that the Easter holidays are a popular time for leisure travel, and this year a range of factors mean there will be more changes than normal to CrossCountry services over the bank holiday weekend.

“As usual for this time of year, we’re asking customers to check before they travel on the CrossCountry app or with National Rail Inquiries to make sure their journey is going ahead as planned.”

It comes as travelers are being urged to plan ahead as airports warned of a surge in passenger numbers over the Easter weekend.

Edinburgh Airport says more than 170,000 people are expected to jet off for a break from the capital.

Meanwhile, bosses at Glasgow Airport are anticipating 90,000 holidaymakers at the start of the Easter school break this weekend.

Around 330,000 people are expected to pass through the terminal during the entire school break.
