Eight patients received a new chance at life after a long wait for an organ on which their lives depended. The organs taken from Bistriţa reached three hospitals in the country.

Genady Vatachki, President of the National Transplant Agency: The donor is a 36-year-old woman who had an arterial malformation that led to a stroke, unfortunately she became brain dead and the family agreed to organ donation, writes Observer.

The woman’s kidneys arrived in Cluj, and the heart to a patient waiting in Târgu-Mureş. All in record time with a Black Hawk helicopter.

Liviu Isache, pilot: The doctors had in their hands a person’s heart that had to end up in another person’s chest, we are glad that we could be present at the duty to help this patient get a new chance at life.

The shipments were made in record time. If the weather does not permit, the organs will arrive at the hospitals as before, by airliners.

Genady Vatachki, president of the National Transplant Agency: We increase our ability to take organs as quickly as possible to patients who need a transplant, it is very important, to have as short an ischemia time as possible.

The heart transplant must be done within 4 hours of sampling, the liver transplant within 8 hours, and the kidneys must reach the donor within 12 hours at most.
