Romania won the women’s gold medals in the queen’s rowing event, 8+1, on Sunday, at the European Championships in Szeged (Hungary), announces the Romanian Rowing Federation.

The crew composed of Magdalena Rusu, Roxana Anghel, Adriana Adam, Maria Lehaci, Mădălina Bereș, Amalia Bereș, Ioana Vrînceanu, Simona Radiș and Victoria Petreanu ran a very good race and ranked first, surpassing the crews from Great Britain and Italy.

Romania ended the European Championships in Szeged with 8 medals, of which 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.

The parade of medal-winning Romanian boats was opened by the boys from four frames. Ciprian Tudosă stroc, together with Ștefan Berariu, Mugurel Semciuc and Andrei Mândrilă finished in 4th place, according to the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee.

The first gold came from the girls’ double sculls. The crew of Roxana Anghel and Ioana Vrînceanu dominated the race from start to finish and won the third consecutive continental title. Only Camelia Lupașcu-Nicoleta Albu have won more medals at the European Championships, 4 consecutive golds. Romania has 18 continental medals in this event, 12 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze. In Szeged, silver went to Greece, Croatia took bronze.

In the men’s double frame, Florin Lehaci and Florin Arteni debuted with a medal as a crew in this event. The tricolors had the Croatian Sinkevic brothers, Olympic and world champions, in the final. It is the 5th double-hull medal in European history, 2 gold (2020, 2022), two silver (2019, 2024) and one bronze (2018).

The Olympic and world champions, Simona Radiș and Ancuța Bodnar, won their first bronze medal. Simona and Ancuța did a race in which they ran after Norway and Lithuania. The Romanians accepted their lesson and promise to be the best in Paris. In the history of European competition, Romania’s double sculls have won 4 gold medals (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023), one silver (2019) and two bronze medals (2012, 2024).

In men’s double rowing, Florin Enache and Andrei Cornea surprised everyone, their crew flew on the water of the Olympic canal from Szegted. With the confidence at the maximum level, the double Enache-Cornea won the gold medal. Elisabeta Lipă cried for their success. The podium was completed by Spain and Germany. It is the first gold medal in the history of the Europeans in this event for Romania, which has 2 other medals, silver (2018) and bronze (2019).

Andrada Moroșanu was one step away from the singles podium, she lost the bronze in the last meters of the race. Mihai Chiruță finished first in Final B in singles.

The flagship of Romanian rowing, the girls’ 8+1 finished the work in Szeged. Romania ended the competition with the 18th gold medal. Simona Radiș, Ioana Vrînceanu, Amalia Bereș, Mădălina Bereș, Maria Lehaci, Adriana Adam, Roxana Anghel, Magda Rusu and Victoria Petreanu proved that they are a force when all hearts and frames beat together. The final had its own story, the rivals from Great Britain once again felt the Romanian complex. Our girls brought home the 18th medal in this boat’s history, the 17th gold, the 8th consecutive title (2007-2024, 2017-2024). Only once did Romania take bronze, in 2015. In only one edition did Romania miss the podium, in 2016.
