The local authorities of Tuscolano and Prenestino quickly intervened, blocking the road and securing the area, which was quickly cordoned off to prevent possible further tragic incidents. Fortunately, the event took place around 1 am, when the streets were less frequented, thus reducing the risk of human casualties, informs romatoday.it.

However, the consequences are serious for the two cars involved, which were seriously damaged as a result of the crash. Firefighters quickly intervened, using a crane to pull the cars out of the deep pit, according to a video posted on the Welcome to Favelas Instagram page.

The causes of this catastrophic collapse are still unclear and investigations are ongoing to determine the factors involved and the type of intervention needed to repair the damaged road.

It is not the first incident of this kind, and the frequency of these incidents makes Italian journalists exclaim “Rome is sinking”. Just the day before, another sinkhole formed on Via Portuense, in an area inhabited by nuns, swallowing a van.

The phenomena were attributed to adverse weather conditions that affected the city, including torrential rains and storms, which caused floods and landslides. Fortunately, in both cases no human casualties were recorded and road reconstruction work began immediately to restore safety and normalcy in the community.
