A Russian military plane crashes off Crimea. The pilot, saved 200 meters from the shore. Russian channels on Telegram talk about a crashed Su-35 near Sevastopol

A Russian military plane crashed off the coast of the Ukrainian Crimean Peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014, and the pilot had time to eject, announced the governor installed by Moscow, reports AFP.

“A military plane fell into the sea”, Mihail Razvojaiev announces on Telegram.

“The pilot catapulted. He was rescued by rescuers from Sevastopol, at a distance of 200 meters from the shore. His life is not in danger”, states the representative of the Russian occupation.

A video – unauthenticated – posted on social media shows a plane – on fire – crashing, and other videos show the pilot floating with a parachute after catapulting.

Sevastopol, the historic headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, is located on the southern coast of Crimea.

The Crimean peninsula is regularly attacked by Ukrainians since the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in February 2022.

Civil objects were not damaged in this incident, announced the governor of Crimea, writes Reuters.

Russian Telegram channels previously announced that a Sukhoi 35 (Su-35) fighter jet crashed near Sevastopol.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.

The Ukrainian army announced on Thursday that it shot down 26 of 28 drones launched by Russia in the night from Wednesday to Thursday.

These Iranian-made drones were destroyed over the east, south and southeast of Ukrainian territory, the Ukrainian army says.
