Ramirez Has Multi-Homer Game, Panthers Drop to Miami (OH)

PITTSBURGH – Amanda “Tuta” Ramirez had a multi-home run game and finished 2-for-2 with three RBI as the Panthers fought back from an early deficit but ultimately dropped to Miami (OH), 10-6, Wednesday evening at Vartabedian Field .

The Redhawks attacked the ball early with the first two batters each hitting a solo home run to start the game. Miami (OH) totaled three home runs to take a 5-0 lead in the first inning.

Amanda “Tuta” Ramirez got the Panthers on the board with a solo home run to center field, followed by an Alena Ball triple in the next at bat in the bottom of the second. Kylie Griggs hit her sixth home run of the season, a two-run homer to right center field, to make the score 7-3 with no outs in the bottom of the third inning.

The Panthers continued to cut the scoring deficit in multiple innings, as Ramirez drew a walk in the bottom of the fourth and Kate Rodriguez singled through the left side to put the runners at the corners. Rodriguez got caught in a run down between first and second, but the Panthers were able to cross home plate before the inning ended.

Ramirez got the Panthers back on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning with her second home run of the day, a two-run shot to left field to cut the Panthers’ deficit to 9-6.

The Panthers return to action this weekend as they host Louisville at Vartabedian Field, March 29-31. Pitt will have their Strikeout Cancer game Friday and will have Jr. Panthers Day on Saturday.
