Samsung has expanded the availability of the Good Lock application, known for the possibilities of customizing the interface of phones with OneUI, making it accessible through the Google Play Store, in addition to its own Galaxy Store.
However, even if this change theoretically facilitates access to the application, in reality, Good Lock remains inaccessible to users in certain regions, including Romania, due to the geographical restrictions imposed by Samsung.
The decision to keep Good Lock available only in certain regions has disappointed users, as many other features and services are available globally without such restrictions. This fact is seen as an unjustified limitation, especially in the context of an interconnected global market, where users expect equal access to technology and software, writes 9to5Google.
Samsung has yet to provide an official explanation
Samsung has not yet offered an official explanation regarding these restrictions, although it is assumed that the absence of a Romanian version of the interface could be one of the reasons. This is not the first time that users in Romania encounter such limitations; similar happened with some AI-based features at the launch of the Galaxy S24 series.
Users who can access Good Lock through the Google Play Store now benefit from not having to use a Samsung or Galaxy Store account to download and use the app.
This step shows some openness on the part of Samsung towards a more liberal approach, but also underlines the need for the company to review the regional availability policy to allow access to all the functionalities offered by the tech giant, regardless of the user’s region.
