Google has expanded access to the Gemini app, opening up the possibility of using it even for older phones, starting with those running Android 10.

The Gemini app, known for its complex and personalized responses, was initially only available for devices running Android 12 or later. This change comes as Google prepares to integrate Gemini features directly into the standard Google app that comes pre-installed on most Android devices.

Gemini allows users to interact more naturally with the virtual assistant, providing detailed and helpful answers that reflect an understanding of the questions being asked. This represents a significant evolution compared to Google Assistant, capable of handling a much wider range of commands through natural language, writes Android Police.

On which devices access to the Gemini app extends

To use Gemini on older devices, users must have at least 4GB of RAM, which could limit performance on older phones like the Pixel 2 or older models from Samsung, Nokia, or OnePlus. However, the processing of AI functions is done on Google’s cloud servers, which reduces the load on local hardware.

Google suggests that, even in poorer conditions, interaction with Gemini can improve the experience of Android users and encourage them to continue using devices with this operating system.
