Google is taking after Samsung, preparing changes for the status bar in Android 15

--

Because next month is happening Google I/O 2024, the event where we see Android 15, it is expected that leaks related to the new version of the OS will continue to appear. For example, today we have fresh details about the status bar, icons and haptics.

Google is rethinking the status bar on Android and apparently takes inspiration from Samsung. Add extra animation to Quick Settings. It is also true that the design of the status bar icons has not changed for a long time. The first two developer previews of Android 15 revealed these novelties. We already knew that Google was walking to the volume settings panel, and now we find out that it was also walking to the icons in the status bar.

It will also add haptic feedback in additional areas of the system. The status bar hasn’t really changed for years, and it’s about the UI element at the top of the screen, which displays icons for different functions. It’s about Wi-Fi signal strength, cellular signal strength and battery level. On Android 15 we get a segmented design, reminiscent of the pre-Android 5.0 era and somehow of the Samsung interface.

The Wi-Fi and cellular signal seem to be from a bygone era, thinner and more minimalistic. Android 15 would also bring haptic feedback in the Quick Settings panel, so when you press a Bluetooth tile the phone will vibrate slightly. And the volume slider receives haptic feedback.
