Galaxy M55 officially announced. It is an alternative to Galaxy A55 with faster charging

--

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy M55, a mid-range model that could be an interesting alternative to the A55 for those who value other hardware capabilities over others. For example, the new M55 comes with a different design with rounded edges and a 2.5D back cover, not flat like the recently launched Galaxy A variant. In general, the M models were similar to the A range, but this time we have many differences, in all departments.

The Galaxy M55 comes with almost completely different hardware than the A55

The design is one of the categories where changes have been made, but the internal components are also as different as possible. The new Galaxy M55 has a larger display of 6.7″, compared to 6.6″ on the A55. However, it is still based on Super AMOLED technology with Full HD+ resolution at 120 Hz and still offers 1,000 nits of maximum brightness.

Then, the hardware configuration is based on a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, so we don’t have Exynos here, and the only configuration offers 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, without a 128GB variant. The microSD slot is also present, for those who need more storage.

In terms of the camera, we may see a “downgrade”, at least on the camera on the back. We still have a 50-megapixel sensor with primary stabilization, but the 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro camera suggest that this camera system is the one on the A35. The 50-megapixel front-facing camera, however, is an upgrade from the 32 on the A55.

Probably the biggest upgrade, however, comes in the charging department. The same 5,000 mAh battery charges at 45W on the Galaxy M55 compared to 25 on the A55, and promises a 70% charge in 30 minutes. It’s not clear why Samsung doesn’t offer as fast charging on the Model A, as it clearly has the “technology” to do so.

The phone has just been officially announced in Brazil, it comes with Android 14 “on board” and the OneUI 6.1 interface. However, the M models don’t get as long-term software support as the Galaxy A, so there would be a disadvantage here for those who keep their phones for more than two or three years.

The price is 2,999 Brazilian reals, equivalent to 557 euros, so about as expensive as the A55 model with 256 GB. Usually, these models also come to other regions, including Romania, but Samsung does not promote them very much. If the Galaxy A55 caught your eye, it might not be a bad idea to consider the M55 if you want a bigger phone with faster charging and a Qualcomm processor.
