Galaxy S24 received the second update with improvements for photo performance

Although the hardware isn’t all that different, all Galaxy S24 editions have various camera performance issues compared to the S23 series.

Pictures overexposed in certain situations, distorted colors, incorrect application of sharpening effects, unexpectedly high noise level. These are just some of the issues reported by Galaxy S24 and S24 Ultra phone owners. Somewhat eagerly awaited by users, the first firmware update fixed frustrating issues like Vivid mode not working for the S24 Ultra’s screen, but improvements to the camera were rather “thin”, with Samsung promising to return with a more consistent update in the near future.

Rolling out since March 26, the second firmware update for the Galaxy S24 promises to improve the cameras’ light sensitivity, while also fixing issues such as incorrect image exposure and issues discovered when using the Slow Mo capture mode. From now on you can use Instant Slow Mo also with the resolution 480×480 pixels.

Samsung also mentions other improvements to the camera app, with the new version improving the clarity of text in high-zoom photos. Color accuracy in the ExpertRAW capture application has also been improved.

The roughly 920MB update also includes the latest security patch (labeled April 1, 2024), fixing various vulnerabilities discovered in the Android kernel. Unfortunately, neither Samsung nor Google details the content of this patch.

If the first update distributed at the end of February added the Vivid setting in the Display tab of the Settings menu, the new update seems to be focused on fixing bugs and improving the general functionality of the S24 phones.
