The results of the first play-out stage of this League 2 season, the 2023-2024 edition, clarified the situation of three more teams participating in this tournament.

With the victories achieved on Saturday, Metaloglobus Bucuresti, Steaua and Chindia Târgoviște mathematically ensured their maintenance in the second echelon for the next edition as well. At least from a sporting point of view, because from the point of view of obtaining the certification, it remains to be seen following the analysis of the files by the Licensing Department within the FRF.

These three join the Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț club, mathematically saved even before the first stage of the play-out, just as the Progresul Spartac club is mathematically relegated.

After Ceahlăul, Metaloglobus also ensured, from Group A of the play-out, mathematically staying in League 2

In Group A of the League 2 play-out, in the first stage, Metaloglobus prevailed with a score of 2-1 away to Ceahlăul, and the draw of Unirea Dej away from CSM Reșita, score 1-1, created a difference of 15 points between the formation from Bucharest and the one from Dej.

As Dragoș Militaru’s team is in the last relegable place, 6th, and the tie between the teams in case they end the play-out in a tie has as the first criterion the number of points obtained at the end of the regular season, then Metaloglobus cannot be surpassed by Union Dej. In these conditions, after Ceahlăul, Metaloglobus is the second team from Group A that mathematically ensures its maintenance in League 2.

Metaloglobus has 29 points accumulated so far, Unirea Dej has 14, and both teams have five more games to play in the six play-out stages.

CSM Reșița, with 14 points more than Unirea Dej, has a good chance of securing its position at the end of the 2nd stage.

The two teams that will be relegated from this group seem to be safe already. CSM Alexandria, with 12 points, and Unirea Dej, with 14 points, have little chance of moving up two, respectively one place in the ranking to stay in League 2. Immediately above them are CSC Dumbrăvița, with 23 points, and Champions FC Argeș , with 24 points.

Steaua and Chindia ensured their retention in League 2, Progresul Spartac is mathematically relegated to Group B of the League 2 play-out

In Group B of the play-out there are also two teams that have mathematically ensured their retention in League 2. With the victories in Târgu Jiu, 2-0 with Viitorul Pandurii, and Buftea, 3-2 with CS Tunari, Steaua and Chindia ended up with 15 points in front of CS Tunari, so they cannot be overtaken by the Ilfov team in the remaining stages of this tournament.

Steaua and Chindia each have 31 points and occupy the first two places in the group, the tie between them being made at this moment of goal difference, 2-0 compared to 3-2.

Concordia Chiajna, with a 12-point lead over CS Tunari, could also ensure its survival from the end of the 2nd stage of the play-out, and CSM Slatina, with a 9-point lead, will he had something to look forward to.

Unlike Group A, there is already a mathematically relegated team in Group B. Progresul Spartac has only 1 accumulated point this season and is relegated to League 3 since the end of the regular season, so before the first stage of the play-out.

The second delegable place is currently occupied by CS Tunari, with 16 points, who still hope to overtake Viitorul Pandurii, seven points higher, in the place that ensures maintenance this season. Their direct match will take place in the 5th stage, in Târgu Jiu, when their situation could already be decided.

Six teams are sure, at least sportily, of the presence in the first season of League 2 with 22 participants

We remind you that two teams that do not have the right to promotion, CSC Şelimbăr and Corvinul Hunedoara, participate in the play-off, so, at this moment, we already know six teams that have, as athletes, a place secured in the 2024-2025 League 2 season. The others four are, as mentioned above, Ceahlăul, Metaloglobus, Steaua and Chindia.

We also remind you that, from the new season, League 2 will switch to a format with 22 teams instead of 20, according to a decision of the FRF last summer, before the start of the current edition of the championship. In order to make this transition, at the end of the current season, four teams will be relegated from the second league instead of five, and six teams will be promoted from League 3 instead of five.
