The prices of animal products increased, decreased in the second month of this year. Meat and canned fish went up in price the most. Cabbage, carrots, potatoes, coffee and alcohol were also more expensive. Prices were also higher for medicines, cosmetics and utilities.

The increase was mainly due to the inflation rate in February 2024. Food prices increased by 4.5%, non-food prices increased by 7.8%, and service tariffs increased by 11%.

The price of animal products increased by 0.32%, according to the latest data of the National Institute of Statistics.

The increase includes the increase in the prices of pigs – by live weight by 10.43%, honey by 6.89%, beef – by live weight by 5.3%, sheep meat – by live weight by 4.65% , poultry meat – in live weight by 1.50%. Prices decreased for cow’s milk (-4.96%) and chicken eggs (-2.70%).

The prices of vegetable products decreased by 24.05%. This price evolution recorded for all vegetable products in February 2024, compared to the same month of the previous year, was mainly determined by:

  • decrease in the prices of wheat (-37.07%), grain corn for consumption (-32.68%), sunflower (-28.15%), rapeseed (-27.16%), barley (-21.87 %), soy (-7.78%).

Price increases were for autumn cabbage by 59.06%, carrots by 26.07%, table pears by 21.12%, dried onions by 18.58%, potatoes by 12.98%, table apples by 7.51%, beans with 5.20%, according to the INS Bulletin, according to Agerpres.

The biggest price increases in food commodities

Within the group of food goods, price increases were recorded for the following goods:

  • other food products (+11.3%)
  • fish and canned fish (+11.0%)
  • alcoholic beverages (+10.3%)
  • cocoa and coffee (+8.8%)
  • meat, meat preparations and preserves (+7.9%)
  • vegetables and canned vegetables (+5.8%)
  • cheese-total (+5.5%)
  • fruit and fruit preserves (+5.2%)
  • honey (+3.8%)
  • bread, bakery products and specialties (+2.4%).

The prices for milling products decreased (-27.9%), oil, bacon, fats (-24.8%), butter (-8.8%), sugar (-8.6%), milk-total ( -2.5%), eggs (-2.4%).

Cost of clothes, energy and household products

The increase in prices of non-food goods by 7.8% was determined by the evolution of prices at:

  • chemical articles (+16.7%)
  • hygiene, cosmetic and medical items (+14.5%)
  • other non-food goods (+10.1%)
  • footwear (+10.0%)
  • tobacco, cigarettes (+9.3%)
  • clothing, haberdashery, haberdashery and haberdashery (+8.6%), cultural and sports products (+7.7%)
  • household products, furniture (+5.5%)
  • fuels (+5.1%), electricity, gas and central heating (+1.2%).

Service rates

Service rates increased by an average of 11%, mainly for:

  • water, sewage, sanitation (+18.7%)
  • medical care (+14.3%), hygiene and cosmetics (+14.2%)
  • restaurants, cafes, canteens, rent (+13.1%)
  • other industrial services (+13.0%)
  • made and repaired clothing and footwear (+12.4%)
  • car repairs, electronics and photo works (+12.3%)
  • payment of accommodation in hotels (+12.2%), cinemas, theaters, museums, education and tourism expenses (+11.4%).

Tariff increases below the group average were recorded for intercity transport (+7.5%), post and telecommunications (+4.7%), urban transport (+2.2%).
