“Who knows who will be next…or if there will be one,” Djokovic says of the new coach

Novak Djokovic (36) said he does not know who his new coach will be, or even if there will be one, a day after ending a five-year partnership with Goran Ivanisevic.

Djokovic brought the Croatian, the 2001 Wimbledon champion, into his team ahead of the 2019 grass-court Grand Slam. Under his guidance, he has won 12 of his 24 career majors.

“As far as the next step in terms of a coach, I don’t have a clear idea of who it might be and if it will be anyone,” Djokovic said at a press conference in Belgrade.

“I’ve always had coaches by my side, ever since I was young. I’m trying to figure out what’s right for me right now.”

Djokovic had a poor start to the year by his standards, losing to Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals of the Australian Open. The 36-year-old then lost to Sinner’s unheralded compatriot Luca Nardi in the third round at Indian Wells, prompting him to withdraw from the Miami Open.

He will return to the circuit at next month’s Monte Carlo Masters ahead of the second Grand Slam of the season, the French Open.
