American Danielle Collins (30 years old), 53rd WTA, in her last season on the world circuit, qualified for the semifinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami on Wednesday.

In the quarterfinals, Collins beat Caroline Garcia from France (27 WTA) without a right to appeal, score 6-3, 6-2, and will play tonight in the aces square with the Russian Alexandrova.

In Miami, in the round of 16, Sorana Cîrstea was also crushed by Collins, the player on the verge of retirement winning decisively 6-3, 6-2, a match that lasted an hour and 30 minutes.

In February, after defeating Naomi Osaka in Abu Dhabi, the US player made a shock announcement that she would retire from tennis at the end of this season, aged just 30.

She has now returned to the subject, being asked if she might change her mind, given that her sporting form is better than ever.

“You keep asking me the same thing and I feel like I always have to justify myself. If I were a man, I don’t think you’d ask me about it every time.

I live with a chronic inflammatory disease that affects your ability to get pregnant. It is a deeply personal situation, this is my personal choice. It is much more than tennis and my career.

I love coming here and competing. But this is a very important life decision and that should be pretty easy to understand,” Collins said.
