Senator Diana Șoșoacă, the leader of the SOS Romania party, reacts to the decision of the Electoral Bureau of the Municipality of Bucharest to reject her candidacy for the Capital City Hall. It claims that Prime Minister Ciolacu is behind this rejection, and the documents will be completed in order to finally be able to run.
“Today Marcel Ciolacu made an unqualified gesture, through his people from the Municipal Electoral Office, because we know very well that everything is politicized. Today I submitted my candidacy for Bucharest City Hall. Why? To confuse everyone. I submitted 19,344 lists of signatures, they didn’t want to give me the report for the signatures, I asked for it separately. I submitted absolutely all the documents filled out perfectly, so that we can hear from the sources – that this is how it is done, instead of telling the candidate and the party – that you see, God, they rejected my candidacy for the Municipality of Bucharest.
It’s not even fair I say. They didn’t reject it for me, because since Tuesday is only the last day, you can say that the file is incomplete and you can fill it out. They rejected my 1000 or so signatures, only about 17,000 would be correct from their point of view, out of a required 18,060. See ladies, the address was missing from some signatures and my name was missing from some forms. That doesn’t mean they weren’t correct, it means they were incomplete and you have to notify not the press, but the candidate and the party that proposed it.
Obviously I ruined all their plans. I didn’t even want to run for office, but when I saw the scumbag from Bucharest and how they want to steal every Romanian from Bucharest, to make fun of him, with the same Nicușor Dan who actually made fun of the people of Bucharest: no warmth, no warm water, with an unimaginable traffic”, declared Șoșoacă, on E TV Bacău.

“Mr. Marcel Ciolacu only knows how to make phone calls to show his hegemony. I did not publicly announce that I will run to see what Marcel Ciolacu does. Today I submitted my candidacy for the General City Hall of the Municipality of Bucharest in Bucharest, in order to confuse everyone. I submitted my candidacy when I saw the thugs in Bucharest and how they want to steal with the same Nicușor Dan who makes fun of the people of Bucharest and everyone agrees that Nicușor Dan should leave because he signs as the mayor. I am glad that Marcel Ciolacu fell into my net regarding the candidacy for Bucharest. I will also bring Marcel Ciolacu a present, a t-shirt that says: “Proud to be Moldovan” and I called for all Moldovans to revolt.
I submitted more than 19,000 signatures, they didn’t want to give me the minutes for the signatures, and now I heard from the press that they rejected my candidacy. You can’t say they rejected my candidacy because only Tuesday is the last day, you can only say they rejected 1000 or so signatures. In their language it means that the address was missing from some signatures and my name was not written on some forms, this does not mean incorrect, but incomplete. They should have announced the party, not the press.
They’re all scared because I’m taking votes from every candidate. The general secretary of SOS Romania, Dan Marin Ștefănel, went to the BEM this evening, and there they put the gendarmes on him, although he is the representative of the party and they have the obligation to call him to communicate the inadvertences. They want to postpone the decision until Tuesday when I can no longer complete the file, it is an order from Marcel Ciolacu. We are dealing with a dictatorship and a dictatorial system that does not want to allow an honest man to participate in the elections, because everyone knows that there is no understanding with me when it comes to corruption, and the General Mayor of the Municipality of Bucharest is the most corrupt institution in Romania.”
About the BEM Bucharest decision
The Electoral Office of the Municipality of Bucharest rejected on Saturday, April 27, the candidacy of Senator Diana Șoșoacă for the position of general mayor of the Capital.
According to some official sources, Diana Soșoacă’s candidacy file would be incomplete. The required number of signatures is also missing from the file. The difference is so obvious that the filing seems to have been merely a formality, to spark new debates.
Other irregularities concern the lack of the candidate’s names on numerous signature lists, the lack of personal data of the signatories.
After analyzing the lists, Diana Șoșoacă has approximately 17,000 valid signatures out of the 20,000 required.
