After periods of fasting, returning to eating habits requires a more careful and gradual approach. Ligia Pop, nutritionist and author of 8 books, gave us some valuable tips to return to a balanced diet, but without overtaxing the digestive system.

Fasting is associated with purifying the body, both spiritually and physically. However, once the fast is over, it is important to gradually return to regular food consumption to avoid discomfort and possible digestive problems.

“We eat a little on the first day, on the second day we eat a little more than we ate the day before, we have to balance”

Ligia Pop emphasizes the importance of starting with small portions of food the first day after fasting and gradually increasing the amount of food consumed in the following days. This allows the digestive system to gradually adapt to the reintroduction of regular foods and avoid overloading.

Balance in the composition of meals is also important. After a period of dietary restriction, it can be tempting to eat large amounts of high-calorie foods. However, the nutritionist recommends that we focus on healthy and balanced foods with an adequate intake of proteins, complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals.

“It is important to realize that Lent was for cleansing, purifying the body, from a spiritual point of view, but also physically. Then, let’s take it in small steps when it comes to a hearty meal.

There are so many days. We don’t have to eat a lot from the first day, if we have kept Fast.

We eat a little on the first day, on the second day we eat a little more than we ate the day before, we have to balance in such a way that the meals are not too much and too much for the digestive system, which took a break from such of food. Let’s give the body time to digest”, Ligia Pop told us exclusively for DC Medical.

Another essential aspect is to give the body enough time to digest the food. Ligia Pop suggests leaving a longer time interval between meals, ideally two, three or even four hours. This allows the digestive system to work efficiently and process food properly.

Of course, there are situations where it is difficult to follow these recommendations, such as during social events or family gatherings. However, even then, Ligia Pop stresses the importance of doing everything possible to stick to this schedule, even with an hour or two gap between meals.

“From one meal to the next, let’s have a long interval of digestion time, that is, as long as possible. Two, three, four hours would be ideal. Maybe it’s not possible, if we have to reach 10 relatives in a day, but as much as possible, an hour or two, between meals, would be very good”, explained Ligia Pop, exclusively for DC Medical.
