Chris Hemsworth plays the villainous title character in Furiosa, a prequel to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, but the transformation wasn’t easy for the 40-year-old actor as he had to spend nearly four hours in the chair makeup.

In an interview with Variety, the “Thor: Love and Thunder” actor talked about how long it took him to transform into the villainous warrior Dr. Dementus, noting that he also needed a prosthetic nose.

The actor also explained that his makeup nerves helped him on screen: “They really improved my performance. It was pent-up anger that finally came to the surface.”

Previously, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor said that the film’s director, George Miller, envisioned his character “to be a historical-looking Roman figure,” which is why he wears a cape in the action film.

The actor also stated that people can see similarities to his previous superhero character, Thor, and explained that he was happy to have the chance to step into the shoes of a villain.

“It wasn’t an intentional comparison to Thor, but I thought it was a great starting point. Playing the antagonist, turning into this completely different character was a lot of fun. I liked. It was a real attraction”the actor also said.

What early reviews are saying about ‘Furiosa’

The first reactions to the early screening have already gone viral, and the roles that Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth play are highlighted by critics, reports indiewire.com.

David Ehrlich of IndieWire wrote: “It gives me great joy to tell you that ‘Furiosa’ is really very good. It operates in a vastly different approach to ‘Fury Road’ (in ways I suspect will frustrate some people) while forging its own legend in the wasteland.”

Josh Horowitz tweeted: “‘FURIOSA’ is not ‘FURY ROAD’ and that’s ok. It doesn’t even try to be. It’s unique, it’s fantastic. I can’t wait to watch it again and again and keep digging into it. All respect, George Miller. As for the acting, Anya and Hemsworth are fantastic. Tom Burke impresses.”

‘Furiosa’ was described as a ‘powerful’ film by Fandango’s Erik Davis: “George Miller’s ‘Furiosa’ is a powerful action film, it couldn’t be better!” A fierce and relentless epic that expands the story of Furiosa and the Wasteland, while offering the craziest chases, the most bombastic characters and simply stunning cinematography. Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth are totally into Wasteland and both give some incredible performances. There is one particular sequence that blew me away. I love MadMax movies and loved this movie. Prepare yourself!”.
