The majority of Romanian drivers consider it useful to receive a list of service units where they can repair their car, in case of an accident, according to the latest study carried out by the Romanian Institute for Evaluation and Strategy (IRES), at the request of the National Union of Insurance Companies and Reinsurance from Romania (UNSAR).

Thus, ask if it would be useful for them, in the event of a road accident, to receive a proposal from the insurer, for information purposes, with service units where they can repair their car, 85% of the respondents answered in the affirmative .

The same sociological research also shows that the majority of Romanian drivers (56%) say that they would be very, very bothered by the situation in which the cost of the repair carried out in a service would be much higher if it were carried out on the basis of RCA policy, compared to the case where this cost would be borne from a driver’s personal budget.

Both the fraud phenomenon and the increase in repair costs are factors that lead to the increase in the average RCA damage, which increased by more than 8% in 2023, reaching the value of 10,750 lei. All claims are ultimately paid out of the insurance premiums that all vehicle owners are required to pay by law.

In conclusion, this survey reveals once again the fact that Romanian drivers know what solutions are needed to improve the current legislation regarding RCA insurance.

The sociological research was carried out in the first quarter of this year, on a representative sample of 1,028 respondents aged 18+ who drive a motor vehicle.

According to UNSAR, last year insurers paid record compensations based on RCA policies, amounting to 4.2 billion lei. To these amounts are added reserves of 2.3 billion lei for approved claims (RBNS), but also 2.35 billion lei related to unapproved claims (IBNR).
Founded in 1994, UNSAR – the National Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies in Romania represents 22 leading companies that hold an approximate 90% share of the local insurance market. Since 2007, UNSAR is a full member of the Federation of European Insurers and Reinsurers – Insurance Europe. (Agerpress)
