Asked if he would negotiate Piedone’s withdrawal, Firea said: “I would negotiate. Marius Tucă also asked me yesterday if I would call him. It’s not that I’m calling him, I’m not proud. Let him do what he said at the beginning, that’s what he said, if Gabriela Firea is running, I’m not running. It would be normal. We collaborated well in the last campaign, you went to the field, spoke to the people of Bucharest – ‘vote me in Sector 5 and Gabriela Firea in the Capital’ – and we won 45% and I thank you. I think we could continue to collaborate in this way. Because he said (…) that he wants something else to happen in Bucharest, that the current mayor is no longer in office, and I think I have stronger arguments to enter the competition with the current mayor. I know the Capital City Hall, I know the problems of the institutions subordinate to the Capital City Hall and the General Council, I left projects that were no longer continued and I realized many projects. Basically, if I were elected, when Mr. Dan’s mandate ends in the fall, I would go straight to work, with activity, I wouldn’t waste any more time”, declared Firea.
Asked if he would be a better candidate than Piedone, she answered: “I don’t want to offend him, and he knows administration, he led a sector very well, he can lead even further, but the Capital City Hall is like six or seven ministries , it is about an administrative capacity that many do not even intuit. (…) I think I could do these things better, because I was there, I know the projects and because when I lost, I lost by a small margin against the current mayor, following a furiously negative campaign to mine, I was not necessarily denied competence, I was given other labels. So it was not so much the competence as general mayor that was attacked during the campaign, but the family, the person, the quality of being a woman, other connotations”.
About a possible “counterfeit” that the PSD – PNL alliance would have made in order to ensure Nicuşor Dan a new mandate, Gabriela Firea emphasized that there can be no such thing, as long as the current mayor “has demonstrated three years and half because he doesn’t have the necessary work rhythm in an administration”.
“It cannot be a blat, as long as PSD, through the voice of our colleagues in the General Council and through my voice, as a senator from Bucharest, we were the most critical people for everything that the current mayor did not do during this period, during his mandate general. We were that constructive critical voice, showing the pace at which the projects were developed in our mandate and the slowness of this mandate, because that’s what it’s all about after all. How could we now make a fixed table to support the man who, perhaps, is very good in other fields, but has demonstrated for three and a half years that he does not have the necessary pace of work in an administration in which we want this city to develop”, concluded Gabriela Firea.
