Camila Giorgi (32 years old) has retired from tennis, the Italian press notes. No official announcement has come from her side yet.

Winner of four tennis tournaments and former WTA 26th place (October 22, 2018), Camila Giorgi appears on the website of the International Tennis Integrity Agency on the list of retired players. Starting May 7th.

“She has registered her withdrawal with the ITIA, which means she is removed from the anti-doping testing program. That signals to the authorities that a player no longer wishes to be considered active and prevents any return for at least a few months,” noted Ben Rothenberg, one of the most important journalists in the world of tennis.

Huge controversy: Camila Giorgi allegedly falsified her COVID certificate

Camila Giorgi was accused of using a fake vaccination certificate during the pandemic.

  • In February 2022, doctors Daniela Grillone Tecioiu and Erich Volker Goepel were arrested following a case of the Vicenza Prosecutor’s Office, in which they were investigated for acts contrary to official duties, forgery of public documents and embezzlement

  • The illicit activity lasted for several months, until the management of the local health unit in Vicenza reported to the police that the doctor recorded “no less than 140 doses every four days, reaching as many as 193 doses between October 25 and 29, 2021”

  • Ten months later, it was found out that Camila Giorgi was also on the client list of the first doctor.

The Australian Open athlete was asked in January 2023 about the scandal involving her name and says she has no worries, explaining why she cannot be charged in the doctor’s case.

The problems are with that doctor, not with me! She (no – doctor Daniela Grillone Tecioiu) was in trouble with the law several times. I got my vaccinations in different places. I got my vaccine with her only once. All others with other doctors. There are 300 names in the investigation, not just mine. I’m very calm, otherwise I wouldn’t have come here to play
