In an interview in the Russian media, former defender Daniel Chiriță (50 years old), currently a player-coach of the national team of artists and the patron of a football school, made scandalous statements against Ukraine and says that he is on Russia’s side in the conflict with neighboring country: “I work out in a T-shirt with Putin’s face on it.”
The former player who played in both Ukraine and Russia has a terrible opinion of the neighboring country and believes that more than 75 percent of Romanians share it.
Daniel Chiriță declared himself a fan of Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, and says that he wears a T-shirt with his face in the gym. What’s more, Chiriță says that he has a statuette of Putin on his desk.

Daniel Chiriță, hallucinatory statements: “75-80% of Romanians support Russia. We all know what Ukraine is – shit!”
“75-80% of Romanians support Russia. We all know what Ukraine is – shit! All my friends and acquaintances have a good attitude towards the Russians and towards Putin personally. They believe that Putin did the right thing.
I love Romania, but what has become of my country now?! They sold everything, just like the Ukrainians. There is nothing. I know your national teams and clubs are internationally banned. For what? It’s not fair. What did the athletes do? You can not!
I want everyone to know! So write: let everyone know that Chiriță loves Russia! I’m serious. I even have a t-shirt with Putin’s picture on it and wear it to the gym. And in my office I have a statuette of the president, right in plain sight. Maybe the move to the Asian competitions should be considered,” Chiriță told sport-express.ru.
Contacted by GSP, Daniel Chiriță confirms the interview and maintains his statements
Contacted by GSP.ro, Daniel Chiriță reacted: “It’s an interview I gave some time ago, I really don’t remember exactly when, but I gave it after the war. I maintain my opinion, I believe that Putin did the right thing by starting the war”.
Daniel Chiriță started football at Petrolul, from where he made the step to Craiova University. Throughout his career, he also played for FC Național, Rapid, Sahtior, Zenit, Stal, UTA and CS Ștefănești.
Chiriță also played a match for the Romanian national team in a victory of the “tricolors” in a friendly with Nigeria, score 2-0. He sat on the bench in the memorable tie with Slovenia in 2001.
Currently, Chiriță is the coach of the National Artists, where he has been since 2013. He also has a football school in Ploiesti, called “Kiru Sport”.
