Stores could be forced to take back plastic, glass or metal packaging manually if the return machines do not work. This is after many customers complained that they could not recycle and did not receive their guarantee of 50 money.

The Ministry of the Environment is working on a government decision by which stores will be obliged to take over the packaging manually, if the automatic systems do not work. It often happens that, when we want to recycle, the machines in the supermarket parking lots do not work or are full. This is especially so on weekends, when many people bring packages to claim the guarantee.

The money will be recovered anyway

If we find ourselves in such a situation, we should be able to recover our money anyway. We will leave the plastic, glass or metal packaging at the cash register, and we will receive the guarantee in cash or the respective amount will be deducted from the value of the purchases. The official act with these changes will have to appear soon.

The guarantee-return system has been operating since November 2023. In the first 3 months of operation, approximately 23 million plastic, glass or metal containers were recovered.
