Border police officers from the Foltești Border Police Sector, in cooperation with the structures of the Border Police from the Republic of Moldova, identified and detained in Ijdileni commune, Galați county, a man who intended to enter Romania illegally by swimming across the Prut river.

Thus, just two days before Easter, on May 3, at around 09:00, the border policemen from the Foltești Border Police Sector, acting on the basis of the exchange of information with the border structures of the Republic of Moldova, organized an action specifies, during which they identified and detained, in the direction of the locality of Ijdileni, a man, speaking English, who was moving from the banks of the river Prut to the locality. Following the checks carried out, the police established that he is a 29-year-old citizen of Cuban nationality, who crossed the Prut river by swimming from the Republic of Moldova to Romania.

“In the case, the border police are investigating for the crime of illegal crossing of the state border, the man being handed over to the authorities of the neighboring state, based on the readmission agreement between the two countries”, explains police commissioner Ene Sorin, spokesperson of the Territorial Structure of the Galati Border Police.
