The Sibiu International Marathon 2024 will gather at the start the largest number of participants in the history of the event. Almost 9,000 people signed up for the 13th edition of the Marathon, which will take place on May 25-26, the organizers announced in a press release. It is a new record set by MIS, which in the last 2 years has almost doubled its number of participants.

After in 2023 it increased by 1930 runners compared to the previous edition, MIS had a spectacular evolution this year as well. Registration for MIS 2024 closed on May 7 at 23:59, and the total number of participants this year is 8,953, which means 2,393 people more compared to the previous edition. The nearly 9,000 participants heeded the exhortation of this year’s theme, “Don’t stay at home, because you’re lucky”, and signed up for the event’s 11 running and walking events for children, teenagers and adults , and during the routes they will be supported and encouraged by approximately 650 volunteers.

“The impressive number of runners who signed up for the 13th edition of the Sibiu International Marathon honors us and gives us a special mobilizing energy! It will certainly be a challenge for the organizing team to make an increase of almost 2,400 runners more than the previous edition imperceptible, but we like challenges and can’t wait to (re)see and (re)acquaint each other at the start, with all the surprises we are preparing for this edition. On May 25-26, almost 9,000 runners, over 4,200 donors, approximately 650 volunteers, over 100 institutional and corporate partners, 20 organizers, a large audience of Sibiu residents and more, will give life and color to the streets of city, putting effort where their values are. Sibiu proves once again that it has a living, united, resilient community. Thank you, Sibiu!”, said Ana Bugneriu, executive director of the event.

The fundraising campaign for MIS causes will end on June 28, until then all participants can be supported with donations.

The 13th edition of the Sibiu International Marathon will include the largest number of causes in the history of the event. After a record number of applications from the Sibiu community, the jury members determined that 51 projects will go forward, the most so far, and among them are cultural projects, green spaces, projects dedicated to the health of Sibiu, projects educational, projects dedicated to the welfare of domestic and wild animals, projects dedicated to the little ones, but also to the elderly.

The Sibiu International Marathon 2024 will take place for 2 days. On Saturday, May 25, the adult races will take place, and on Sunday, May 26, the Children’s Races will take place.

On the first day of the event, the participants registered for the following races will start running: Continental Marathon (42.2 km), Joyson Half Marathon (21.2 km), MultiversX Cross Country (5.3 km), Decathlon TeamRun (21.1 km ), Squad Race by Zacaria (3.4 km), Wenglor 10k (10 km), Steps for the City (3.4 km walking trial).
