The association that monitors large infrastructure projects in the country films from a drone the state of the works on the railway between Cluj-Napoca and Oradea and concludes that progress is poor.

It is more precisely the section between Aghireș and Poieni, in Cluj. “The progress of the contractor Arcada is quite poor, although traffic is closed from January 2024 on lot 2 of Highway 300 between Cluj-Napoca and Oradea (Episcopia Bihor), the reconstruction of the Aghireșu-Poieni railway being attacked as early as November 2023”, says the Pro Infrastructura association . Before the reconstruction, the train speed on this section was 80 km/h. After the works will be finished, the maximum speeds will increase to 100 km/h between Aghireș and Huedin, 120 km/h between Huedin and Brăișoru and 85 km/h to Poieni. The line will be electrified, a first in northwest Transylvania, and the European ETCS signaling system will be installed.
“The contractor is mobilized especially between Braișoru and Poieni, with some activity in Huedin. Work is mainly done on structures (bridges and decks). The 36 km lot worth 1.5 billion lei has reached approximately 3% physical stage, i.e. far below the level of 3% per month required to be ready in the PNRR term of 2026”, says the association. “This section is unfortunately the only more seriously attacked of the four signed in January 2023 for design and execution. The PNRR deadline of 2026 is even more difficult to achieve on the other lots”.

The Cluj-Napoca – Aghireșu section will be driven at 100 km/h and there is a construction permit. Poieni-Aleșd includes the gorge area, the most difficult, where the association estimates that the authorization will be issued in the coming weeks. On this sector, the trains will run at 75-100 km/h, straight line, at 160 km/h on the Vadu Crișului-Aleșd section. “On the Aleșd-Oradea section, designed at 160 km/h, double line, the construction permit has just been issued and we should, theoretically, see movement in the field soon”, concludes the association.
