• National premiere project implemented by the County Council in Salvamont Gorj

The Gorj County Council announced the official launch of a unique project in Romania: equipping Salvamont Gorj with the most efficient ambulance-type intervention vehicle in Romania, specially designed for mountainous conditions and hard-to-reach areas. This vehicle, an innovative prototype developed by Salvamont Gorj, was recently approved and praised at the International Mountain Rescue Congress in Toblach, Italy. It has advanced technology for communications and data analysis, including the use of drones for reconnaissance

The vehicle is equipped to carry up to five rescuers and one casualty. It has advanced medical technology, including defibrillators, mini-monitors for vital signs and a thermal isolation system for the injured. It also includes specialized equipment for rescue from steep areas and support for helicopter interventions (wheeled stretcher for rescue and transport, rescue tripod, manual winch, battery-operated winch, work and intervention equipment for rescuers – harnesses, helmets, ropes, rollers, pulleys, blockers, carabiners, transport bags, etc.).
“In the context of our constant concerns for the improvement of medical emergency services in Gorj County, we have paid and will pay special attention to their modernization and efficiency in the future. In this sense, we intervened on the Emergency Reception Unit of the County Hospital in Târgu Jiu, which we rehabilitated according to the most rigorous standards, turning it into a model of medical excellence.
Our efforts extend beyond the urban amenities, reaching the most inaccessible areas of the county, from the mountain tops to the depths of the caves and waters.
In these places, Gorje mountain rescuers have repeatedly demonstrated that they form an elite unit, ready to respond promptly and efficiently in any emergency situation.
To this end, we have assumed the responsibility of allocating the necessary material and financial resources to maintain and develop rescue services, especially in mountainous areas and other hard-to-reach regions, which constitute more than 40% of the surface of our county. Thus, our commitment remains firm: to ensure that every person, in critical moments, will benefit from quick and effective interventions, supported by the professionalism and dedication of our rescue teams”, stated Cosmin Popescu, president of the Gorj County Council.

Sabin Cornoiu: Quick and effective interventions
In the same context, the director of Salvamont Gorj, Sabin Cornoiu, emphasized the importance of technology in improving responses to emergency situations: “With the help of this machine, we combine human effort with the most advanced technologies to ensure quick and efficient interventions.”
He added that the vehicle not only sets a new standard in mountain rescue services, but also serves as an example of good practice for other counties and even other countries.
Salvamont Gorj is part of the emergency structure of the Gorj County Council and operates with multiple specialized teams, including speleological rescue and underwater interventions.
At the beginning of this year, the Department for Emergency Situations and the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations allocated two more Salvamont intervention vehicles, also equipped with trailers for rescue dogs, which will help to ensure an adequate intervention capacity for the four rescue teams mountain rescue, the speleological rescue team, the aquatic and underwater intervention team and the special intervention team from the Gorj County Council Rescue Service.
Last year, the Gorje rescuers intervened in 282 accidents, more than half of which required transportation with Salvamont emergency vehicles to the hospital or to the meeting place with SAJ, SMURD ambulances or the SMURD helicopter.
