Netflix announced on Tuesday the start of filming for season 2 of the series “Wednesday” in Ireland, practically confirming the information that appeared half a year ago. The production of Netflix’s first original series filmed in Romania is thus moving to another European country.

“We are delighted that the entire Addams family will join Nevermore Academy this season, alongside a dream cast of stars and new faces,” say creators Al Gough and Miles Millar in a statement quoted by Variety magazine and News.ro .

Wednesday was the first Netflix original series filmed by the American company in Romania since the launch of its streaming platform on the Romanian market in 2016, the series directed by Tim Burton enjoying huge success worldwide.

The series spent over 20 weeks in the Global Top 10 and reached the Top 10 Most Watched Series in 93 countries. As for the number of viewing hours for an English-language series, it is outranked only by season 4 of Stranger Thingsanother Netflix phenomenon, but this one had an extra episode and benefited from longer episodes.

Among the locations used for filming at Wednesday and which can be seen in the series were the Cantacuzino Castle in Bușteni, the train station in Sinaia, Casa Monteoru in Bucharest, the Old Greenhouse of the Botanical Garden in the capital and the Buftea studios.

The first season filmed in Romania, however, meant much more for our country, from jobs for many technicians to the presence of some Romanian actors in the series. In fact, part of the Romanian team behind the camera was nominated for the Emmy awards along with the British and American teams.

The Hollywood Reporter learned in November that Netflix will shoot Season 2 of “Wednesday” in Ireland

But last November, both Variety, one of the biggest magazines in the entertainment industry, and Deadline, one of the most well-known film sites, wrote that their sources independently confirmed to them that season 2 of Wednesday to be filmed in Ireland.

Although the information was not officially confirmed by Netflix at the time, it was considered so reliable that it was also picked up by IFTN (Irish Film and Television Network) and publications such as The Economic Times.

The decision is said to have been made following the end of the Hollywood actors’ strike, with Netflix wanting to start filming for season 2 of the series, which it confirmed early last year, to begin in the spring of 2024. That would mean that the next season of the series it would appear in the most optimistic case towards the end of the year or most likely in the first part of 2025.

The series in which the mystery harmoniously intertwines with the supernatural presents the years of Wednesday Addams as a student at Nevermore Academy.

Netflix has now officially announced the full cast for Wednesday season 2, which will include Jenna Ortega, Steve Buscemi, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Hunter Doohan, Victor Dorobantu, Moosa Mostafa, Isaac Ordonez, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Billie Piper, Georgie Farmer, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, Noah Taylor with Luis Guzmán and Catherine Zeta-Jones; alongside Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton, Jamie McShane, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, Joonas Suotamo with Fred Armisen, Christopher Lloyd and others.
