The Little Theater announces the official premiere of the show “REVIZORUL” of Nikolai Gogolart direction and adaptation Alexandru Dabijascenography Ioana Pashcaon May 9 and 10, 2024, 6:30 p.mat Studio Hall – Str. Gabroveni no. 57.
The play “The Reviewer” written by Nikolai Gogol in 1835, published in 1836 and revised in 1842, is considered one of the greatest works of the Russian author and one of the greatest comedies in Russian literature.
Staged for the first time at the Little Theatre, the text is extremely current and reflects the political realities penned by Gogol in a universal sense.
“The Reviewer” is a social satire that explores the corruption and hypocrisy in Russian society at the time. The action takes place in a small provincial town in Russia, where an official from the central government is expected to arrive in the town as an inspector to investigate the corruption and incompetence of local officials.
The play is full of comic situations, confusions and mistaken identities, and its humor is underlined by irony and sarcasm. “The Reviewer” had a major impact on Russian literature and was appreciated for both its humor and subtle social criticism. It became one of the most frequently staged plays in Russia and was adapted into numerous films and productions by television over time.
