Timișoara City Hall has completed the new park, located in the Luna area. Here was brought one of the plane trees recently removed, for safety reasons, from the Cathedral Park. The tree was used for arranging resting places and some decorative elements.
“It is a project that I consider a model for how the administration together with the people of Timisoara make the city a place where we like to live. I thank them for the civic spirit and involvement of those in the area. We turned a vacant lot into a green area for the whole neighborhood: both for children and for parents and grandparents. We continue with our strategy to green Timisoara and create green spaces for the community in the city’s neighborhoods“, declares the mayor Dominic Fritz.
The development of the park was done with funding from the local budget, through the participatory budgeting mechanism, in the 2023 campaign. The municipality reminds that the neighborhood managers worked closely with the residents of the area to identify the existing needs “The citizens of Zona Luna mobilized in an exemplary manner and managed to obtain many votes for the transformation of a land of almost 5000 square meters into a park. For 30 years, this area has been unkempt and used as a parking lot or illegal waste dump.”
Now, through the project proposed by the citizens and implemented by the City Hall, the land has become a large area of greenery, relaxation and play for the neighborhood children. In total, 121 trees, 2900 shrubs and perennials were planted on an area of 2000 square meters. The wooden urban furniture has been installed and this week the trash cans are arriving and being installed.
The layout concept is designed around the idea of the phases of the Moon, realized through circular lines, with roundabouts and alleys that will preserve the existing directions, used by the residents of the area, say the representatives of the City Hall. They remind that the last new park in Timișoara was the Factory Park, inaugurated in 2009.
