The blooming peonies in the “Carol I” Park (formerly CFR) compete with those in the Botanical Garden. True, there are not as many as in the Museum Complex of Natural Sciences, but they are just as beautiful and fragrant in the show. And for some of the residents of Galați, the “Carol I” Park is more accessible than the Botanical Garden. Evidence of crowded alleys captured on the third day of Easter. The floral show in the park is also the result of the modernization of this site with European funds. The total value of the investment inaugurated last summer was almost 10 million lei.

“Carol I” Park is mentioned by Gheorghe N. Munteanu Bârlad in the work “Galaţii” among the existing parks in the city in 1927. In 2020, the Galati City Council decided to change the name of CFR Park to “Carol I” Park, having view the defining role that King Carol I had in the history of Romania, including in the history of the city of Galați.

Every year, on May 15, we celebrate Romanian Peony Day, and the peony has also become the “National Flower of Romania” since September 2022. Scientifically named Paeonia peregrina romanica, the Romanian peony is a special species, distinguished by its dark green leaves with tooth-shaped lobes, but also by its blood-red petals arranged in a cup shape, around a pollen-rich pistil. Due to the fact that all the flowers bloomed earlier this year, we may not get too much enjoyment out of the peonies either, which will most likely be rocking out to their official day, both through the parks and in the habitat their natural beauty, so now is the time to enjoy their beauty.
