A person was found charred, on Sunday, Easter day, in an apartment located on the 12th floor, in a block in the 4th District of the Capital. Firefighters say the fire started from a lit candle left unattended.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), a fire broke out in an apartment in District 4 of the capital on Sunday morning.

The first firefighters who arrived at the scene found that the fire was on the 12th floor of a 14-level apartment building, and the stairwell was flooded with smoke.

Unfortunately, one person was found charred in the balcony of the home affected by the fire.

At the same time, three other people were evacuated from the upper floors as a precaution, but it was not necessary to transport them to hospital units.

Following the investigations carried out, the firefighters established as the probable cause of the fire a burning candle left unattended.

In the last 24 hours, at the national level, 1,470 interventions were registered, rescuers being requested to extinguish 78 fires, 1,176 cases of first aid (1,170 for first aid and 6 extrication missions), as well as 216 other situations for the protection of communities, say IGSU representatives.

The number of interventions in which the personnel of the inspectorates for emergency situations participated registered a slight increase compared to the similar period last year – approximately 7% (1,470 in 2024, compared to 1,371 interventions in 2023).
