“At first glance, there doesn’t seem to be anything unusual in this setting, but what do you say if we reveal more of the overturned village. Here we are in the traditional house where the rooms are furnished with furniture from the time of the grandparents and objects that you can only find in a museum”to miss Diana SperetoiuObserver reporter.

The overturned village of Gorj: 10 houses and a car

Ten houses standing on their roofs or tipped on their side and a suspended car now welcome the tourists who arrive in the town of Bumbeşti-Piţic, at the foot of the Transalpina, in Gorj. “Mommy, you’re on the wall, like Spiderman!”a child exclaims.

“For children, especially for mine, the part with the car is the most interesting, as he is passionate about cars”, says a tourist. Each house has its own story. One is the home of the smurfs, the other looks like it’s made of gingerbread. Some are modern, others have a porch. All offer spectacular frames for selfies worthy of many likes on social networks.

How Alex got the idea. He invested all his savings in the first box upside down

“Brilliant idea! Probably when he slept in bed, he saw the opposite. Even the parked bicycle, everything, and the mailbox, including those lampposts, the lights. Those photos where you’re holding the table and turning the phone, I don’t know, it’s something special “a Romanian thinks.

Alex is the one who had the idea. In 2021, he invested all his savings in the first overturned box. For many years, he sold kurtos on Transalpina, then worked for a while in England. He wanted to return home and put his hometown on the tourism map through a new project. After three years of work, he opened the doors to guests of an entire village built upside down.

“A village, it doesn’t exist anywhere in the world. We started from here, to be something unique in our country, as well as in Europe and the whole world. We started with the roof the first time and now we managed to complete it”he says Alex Ducuthe owner of the complex.

The complex can also be visited on Easter. The cottages are open from morning to evening. The entrance ticket costs 15 lei for children and 20 lei for adults.
