The National Railway Company “CFR” SA announces for the current year investments in infrastructure of over 220 million lei, excluding VAT. The projects concern both new works and repairs on various railway lots that cross Sibiu County. On some railway sections, such as those to Ocna Sibiului, Loamneș, Tălmaciu, trains will be able to run – at least theoretically, at speeds of up to 120 km/h.
In the north of the county, work is also being done on a tunnel, while on the line that goes to Valea Oltului, work will be done on two bridges.
In addition, in Săliște and Apoldu de Sus, drivers will be able to drive their cars over the railway lines much more easily, as the level crossings will be rebuilt.
The Turnul Sfatului newspaper presents below the complete list of investments in railway infrastructure in Sibiu County, planned by CFR SA and managed by the Regional Branches CF Brașov and SRCF Craiova for the year 2024 or ongoing:
“Quick Wins” type projects Works to eliminate speed restrictions to restore the technical parameters of the track superstructure – SRCF Brașov
For Sibiu County, works execution contracts were signed for two lots, with an estimated value of 24.25 million lei, excluding VAT:
- Lot 1 – Ocna Sibiului – Loamneș, between km 405+115 – 405-449 and between km 405+450 – 406+950 (1,834 km);
- Lot 2 – Tălmaciu – Sibiu line II, between km 386+011 – 387+262 and between km 388+436 – 390+685 (3,500 km).
“We mention the fact that the Quick Wins type works, with the financing secured from PNRR funds, are specific repair works of the track superstructure, which aim to lift speed restrictions, improve traffic conditions, by increasing the maximum speed to 120 km/h (function of the route configuration) and the optimization of the degree of safety”, informed the CFR officials at the request of Turnul Sfatului.
Bridges, underpasses and railway tunnels rehabilitation works – stage II Lot SRCF Brașov
There are 5 objectives within Sibiu County:
- bridge located at km 372+846 wire I+ wire II, on line 203;
- bridge located at km 36+159, on line 210;
- bridge located at km 36+927, on line 210;
- bridge located at km 38+418, on line 210;
- tunnel located at km 38+522 – 38+645, on line 210.
The feasibility study for these objectives has been completed. The estimated value of the investment for the objectives in Sibiu county is 200.49 million leiwithout VAT.
Bridges, underpasses and railway tunnels rehabilitation works – stage II Lot SRCF Craiova
Within Sibiu County, the rehabilitation of the bridge located at km 365+140, on line CF 203 Piatra Olt – Podu Olt, between Valea Mărului and Turnu Roșu stations is planned. The feasibility study for this objective has been completed. The estimated value of the investment is 2.08 million lei, excluding VAT.

The implementation of the project Rehabilitation of bridges, bridges and railway tunnels – stage II is planned to be carried out through the Transport Program 2021 – 2027, depending on the budget allocated for this type of work.
Modernization of railway level crossings, Lot SRCF Brașov
As part of this project, the modernization of the level crossing located at km 40+505, between the CF Săliște and Apoldu de Sus stations, is planned within the Sibiu County radius. The estimated value of the investment for this objective is 6.37 million lei, without VAT.
The implementation of the project Modernization of railway level crossings is planned to be carried out through the Transport Program 2021 – 2027, depending on the budget allocated for this type of work.
“It is important to state that, during 2024, the Exploitation Sector within CFR SA is carrying out maintenance and repair works on railway level crossings on line 203, including a level crossing on the Sibiu County radius , located at km CF 435+396, between the Șeica Mare – Copșa Mică stations (the value of the work – 530,000 lei, with financing provided by the State Budget)”, CFR officials also explain.
Also, at the level of the Technical Sector – Railway Projects Development Directorate, the following investment objectives are underway in Sibiu County:
Investment objectives financed from the State Budget
- Platform rehabilitation with the replacement of track devices Sibiu station, Cap Y (DALI development and Technical Project);
- Platform rehabilitation with the replacement of track devices at Sibiu station, Head Y (execution of works).
Investment objectives financed from Own Sources
Auction at CFR on the lines from Sibiu: 20 million lei. Speed restrictions would be removed
