A town in Gorj has the longest serving mayor. It is about the Căpreni commune, led for over three decades by Emil Cătănoiu. And this year he will enter the electoral battle from PSD, the party on whose list he has been a candidate since 1990. His opponents have not yet been announced by the rest of the political parties.

Emil Cătănoiu was not even 30 years old when he was elected mayor of Căpreni. He has been mayor since 1990. And before the Revolution, he was deputy mayor for almost a year.

He is the oldest mayor in Romania: “I am no longer in Romania with eight mandates and two years. I was deputy mayor, then I took the position of mayor,” said the mayor in a program on Radio Accent.

The mayor boasts that he has modernized roads, schools and introduced gas, water and sewerage, even though there are still villages where people do not benefit from all utilities even now.

However, a plus for the authorities is the health center in the center of the commune, which functions as a small hospital and where both people from the commune and those from neighboring towns go to treat their illnesses. “And there we obtained funding from the World Bank, including rescues, apart from medical equipment. This center is also for Stoina, Danciulești, Stejari, Crușeț. Sometimes there are no more beds for those who want to be treated at Căpreni, and we have also requested an increase in the number of beds. Maybe we’ll get five more,” the mayor said.

Although there are still a few days until the electoral campaign officially begins, the other parties have not yet announced the candidates who will join the electoral battle for Căpreni City Hall.
