Basescu spoiled Ciolacu’s games during the long night of beating Cirstoiu: “I said to Cirstoiu: ‘It’s childish to give them the opportunity for a buzoian, pretzel-type face'”

The former president Traian Basescu stated that he cannot disclose whether or not he told the doctor Catalin Cirstoiu to withdraw from the race for the Mayor of the Capital, being “a private discussion, like from nose to tail”. He added that he offered his son an abrupt solution, namely “Well, they put you in, let them withdraw you”.

“I can’t tell you. It was a private discussion, like from nose to tail. In any case, think about the abrupt solution I gave him, not a soft one. “Well, they put you in, let them withdraw you.” Why say – “our candidate ran away on the sidewalk”? It’s childish to give the opportunity to a buzoan-type face, a pretzel-type, to say – “well, that was not serious, our candidate has left”, said Traian Basescu, when asked if he told the doctor Catalin Cirstoiu to withdraws from the competition for the Capital City Hall, on Sunday at Digi 24, quoted by news.ro.

The well-known sociologist Alfred Bulai declared in an interview for aktual24.ro that the doctor Catalin Cirstoiu had a real chance to win the Capital City Hall, but he was strongly sabotaged from inside the PSD. “Mr. Ciolacu, before replacing Mr. Cirstoiu, negotiated with Mr. Piedone! That he had no problem exchanging him with Piedone”, revealed Bulai.

“I think that Mr. Cirstoiu had the first chance in reality! Because PSD-PNL still meant a great force in Bucharest. He came out very well at the end, it’s true, he was more of a political man at the end, that is, when he said: ‘Well, finish it, I’m the winner, leave me with your nonsense! If you want, you can put me aside, but I’m not giving up like that, stupid!’. I mean vertically, no… “Okay, ma, if you say you don’t want anymore…”

It came out beautifully. What I want to say: it was a big surprise because he was the new man! It had its big image problems, it didn’t pass the screen, etc. But it was very possible that it would grow! Just as Mr. Piedone grew spectacularly because he appeared all of a sudden, and after that he started to decline! Because you have the advantage of surprise. On the other hand, you only had the Nicusor and Cirstoiu variants, there were no others! Like Piedone, after all… How can I say, confusing, but more or less. I can’t say that Mr. Cirstoiu would have won, but the bottom line is that, as things look, the votes are divided quite a lot. I mean, I want to say that the situation is not better now than before!

(…) The funny part is that, if it wasn’t Mr. Cirstoiu, Piedone wouldn’t appear either, most likely!”, Bulai told aktual24.ro.

He also revealed part of the behind-the-scenes games that led to the replacement of Cirstoiu.

“It was a maneuver! In fact, Mr. Ciolacu wanted Mr. Cirstoiu! He brought it there, it didn’t appear like that, hodoronc-trunk. Some of the PSD leaders did not want him and probably worked against him. On top of that, it was acceptable for the PNL, as proof that the first one to suggest that he withdraw was Mr. Ciolacu, attention! Not when there was a meeting! Mr. Ciolacu was away and he said that Mr. Cirstoiu had to quickly solve his problems, to hold the press conference. In other words, as if you are the president of a football club and publicly – although you shouldn’t do so publicly, right? – you tell the coach to see what he is doing, that he is going to be kicked out! Well, do you think that team is still playing? I mean, it’s already a big problem!

(…) There were very high pressures inside the PSD, first of all! I mean from the inside! Because they also had completely different… Think that, at the launch of Cirstoiu, Negoita spoke as if he was in opposition to Cirstoiu. And Fiera began to cry! It is clear that they hoped all along that it would not be Cirstoiu! Attention, they talked about Cirstoiu at least two months before! They were talking there that he would be a doctor. I repeat, the idea was not bad.

It is true that Mr. Cirstoiu was not the best real option. I mean, there had to be someone more… How can I say, closer to the political world! People made the comparison with Oprescu, but it’s stupid! Oprescu was a politician, he was in the leadership of the party. He was a candidate twice and lost! Since 1998 he entered the competition! It has nothing to do with Cirstoiu! And Oprescu was also nice, I mean, please, he made jokes, I mean it was somehow natural. And, above all, the politician must understand that… Look, for example, this plays well for his electorate, Piedone puts on a show, many fakes. Arranged stuff, but it doesn’t matter to people, it’s a show and for some it’s OK!

But when Mr. Cirstoiu leaves… What I want to say is that there were also those stupid advisers who advised him! So you take him by subway? Do you really think that a head doctor of a hospital has been taking the subway for decades? It’s unnatural, he doesn’t even know what he looks like! That was the first time with the metro, probably. It’s stupid! You have to campaign for someone on the possible and acceptable image for him! You don’t have to do it yourself…

Well, Mr. Cirstoiu sinned – but, I repeat, he did not have good counseling! – because it looked like nobody’s business! I repeat, he had a chance to grow! From my point of view, it was not impossible. That it was two months or even more when it started? But, I repeat, the fact is consumed, so it doesn’t matter anymore.

(…) From what we know, Mr. Ciolacu, before replacing Mr. Cirstoiu, negotiated with Mr. Piedone! That he had no problem exchanging him with Piedone. It was simpler, it didn’t do anything. And the PNL-ists said: ‘Well, sorry!’ I mean, he’s really excluded!”, revealed Bulai.

Marcel Ciolacu was asked, on Saturday, on the Insider Politic show, how he ended up electing Catalin Cirstoiu.

“From the profile. I was in the University Hospital. No, I was not a patient. God forbid. I was in the hospital and I was impressed by the management of the University Hospital. You know that the University Hospital is one of the hospitals included in the PNRR. I met Dr. Cirstoiu directly as a manager, as a doctor, I was interested. Like Mr. Florescu, a professional in the field who makes the PUG of Bucharest. I mean, we tried to catch… We said ‘Sir, one is the candidate, one is the team’, let’s still come up with an administrative offer for Bucharest”, declared Marcel Ciolacu.

He also claimed that he did not call Klaus Iohannis when he was visiting South Korea to inform him that PSD and PNL are going with separate candidates to the Capital City Hall.

“They are two different things. First of all, I didn’t talk to Mr. Iohannis for how long he was in Korea, if there was something urgent in Korea and he had the authority to communicate with me in the government area, I suppose he would have done it. Shall I call Mr. Iohannis to say what? We decided to…No. I repeat, I do not have a political partnership with Mr. Iohannis. But this is known”, Marcel Ciolacu also conveyed.
