Farmers in Teleorman consider themselves lucky compared to those in other drought-affected regions, such as Buzau, Argeş and Galati, because the rain came at the right time for the spring crops, i.e. corn and sunflower.

Thus, the high heat since the beginning of this year – with maximums of 29°C in April – did not negatively influence them.

“Fortunately, in our area, it rained at the important moments, when we needed water, right after sowing, and our crops started growing very well already in the autumn. Also, the rains of the last few days were welcome, even if only 15-20 liters were collected. The spring crops are currently looking good, but we will see how they will evolve until harvest and if we will have any more precipitation. As I told you, I consider that in this part of the country, maybe even the county, we are lucky”, says Andra Barbu, a young farmer from Teleorman county who works about 1,500 hectares within the Iancom farm.
